Rising Glasgow quartet The Van T’s have just returned from The Great Escape festival in Brighton after releasing blistering new single Control, via Big Indie Records. Twin sisters Hannah and Chloe Van Thompson’s (guitar, vocals) formed The Van T’s in 2013 with Joanna Forbes and Shaun Hood and the band have been on the trajectory up, particularly in the last couple of years. And soon, they will be supporting the Foo Fighters on stage in Glasgow. The band took a moment out of their schedule to speak with The Fountain about the new single as well as how excited they are to be performing with Dave Grohl.
TF: A new single, how exciting, what has the reception been like so far?
It’s been great! We’ve had a lot of positive responses, people really enjoying the song. We’ve had amazing radio play on stations all across the UK, including Radio 1, in Europe and across the U.S. and Canada, which is totally wild!
TF: What inspired you to title it Control?
The joy and pleasure one feels when approaching the Golden Arches, knowing you’ve got your life together enough to make it in time for the breakfast menu.
TF: And will you be promoting this with a list of exciting tour dates?
We’ve actually just come back from a tour around the UK, so we won’t be announcing any more tour dates at the moment. But we’ll be performing at a lot of exciting festivals such as The Great Escape, Electric Fields, Tramlines, Truck Festival and we’ll also be supporting The Foo Fighters at Bellahouston Park!
TF: Where has been your favourite gig to date?
That’s a really tough question. I’m sure all of us will have different answers. The tour we did with The Jesus and Mary Chain was amazing, we’re such big fans of theirs and it was such a pleasure to share a stage with them. Same goes for the gigs we did with Sunflower Bean. A personal favourite of mine is when we supported Wolf Alice in Dundee. I grew up in Dundee and never ever played Fat Sams live when I lived there so it was amazing to come home and support such a class band.
TF: How excited are you to be supporting the Foo Fighters in the summer?
Very very very very bloody excited. We’re all pretty much still in a state of disbelief I think. I heard Dave Grohl likes a BBQ, so let’s hope the sun’s out for it.
