Jared Celosse, a new addition to the Olive Grove Records roster, has recently released his debut EP, Four Cold Walls, which will soon be followed up with live gigs, supporting Zoë Bestel at the Hug and Pint in Glasgow and Voodoo Rooms in Edinburgh.
Jared spoke with The Fountain about working with Olive Grove Records, performing with Eugene Kelly (The Vaselines) and eventually getting his work out to the public.
TF: An EP release, you must be excited?
Absolutely! One of the greatest rewards from writing music is releasing it to the public, after spending a long time writing, recording and editing, finally showing a product to others and receiving feedback is an important moment. Especially in the case of this EP, one I have been sitting on for some time, one that was conceived in isolation and recorded in my own room, to share the result of that process is both nerve-racking but also a weight lifted, my songs after all are stories to tell and they’re finally where they should be. Now I’m keen on pushing on and recording more!
TF: And I see you are performing at The Hug and Pint and Voodoo Rooms relatively soon, what can we expect from those gigs?
You can expect a thirty minute set of a few songs from the EP as well as a few new ones, all of which will be played stripped back to piano and vocals, in the state they were written in. For these two gigs in particular I will even be playing one or two songs that I have not played before, simply to keep the sets challenging for myself!
TF: And what has it been like working with Olive Grove Records to release this record?
It has been just as I hoped it would, a smooth and efficient operation but one filled with love and care for the product we are releasing. I was given the opportunity to have the songs re-mastered by a friend of the label Jon Huxtable, and he gave the songs more polish, which having been produced in my bedroom was much needed! We were also able to have CDs created for the EP which came out beautifully and something that I am very grateful to Olive Grove Records for.
TF: Are you going to be promoting this with a tour, are we likely to see you play live soon?
No tour as of yet, but it would be fantastic to put on a show of the songs closer to their recorded state in the EP than they are when I perform them solo, so we have this in mind for some time in the future. But, in terms of already acheduled solo performances you can see me this April and May supporting Zoë Bestel!
TF: What has been your favourite gig to date?
I always enjoy performing at the Hug & Pint, and had a great time meeting and supporting Eugene Kelly this January, with friends in the crowd and kind words from others in the audience, I remember living off of that buzz for days afterwards.
Jared is performing on 22nd April at the Hug and Pint, Glasgow and Voodoo Rooms, Edinburgh on 4th May.
