Desert Blonde, a.k.a. the Brooklyn-based musician Zach Hinkle, has shared Stay For Good, the second single from his upcoming new EP, Live Slow Die Old. Zach spoke with The Fountain about the track in more depth as well as his plans for the remaining year.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Stay for Good?
The single came out this week so we’re in the early stages but it’s been good. Had some press, had friends and family say some nice things. It feels good to get the music out there. No complaints.
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
It’s about a couple who love each other very much but are also very different types of people and the challenges that come with that.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this release?
Continue writing and recording. I have a few tunes ready to release under a project called smoltz. It’s more rock I guess. Like Pixies or Pavement kind of vibe.
Other than that, just try to stay sane. 2020 has been a lot for everyone, I think.
TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?
There are so many cool venues. I grew up in Georgia and I love the Earl in Atlanta and the Caledonia in Athens. I haven’t played many NYC venues. Pete’s Candy Store is great for an intimate set. Music Hall of Williamsburg is my favorite venue to see bigger shows. Back in the day I played at the O2 Academy Brixton and that was amazing. Definitely the nicest venue I’ve played. Would be cool to play that again some day, just need 10,000 fans.
As far as gigging, I’d like my next gig to be in a city where I could see friends that I don’t get to see very often. So either Atlanta or Los Angeles.
