The Maitlands are carving their own sound. New single, Where Did It All Go Wrong was recorded in January 2020 and is their most ambitions piece of work in journey so far. Little did they know at the time, that the title would have such relevance to us all in the situation the world currently ?nd itself in. The band spoke with The Fountain about the track and where they see themselves in 2020.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Where Did It All Go Wrong?
It only came out a few days ago but the feedback so far has been great. People really seem to have taken this one on to heart. Maybe it’s the title that’s struck a chord? It was actually written about a year ago and recorded before the lockdown so doesn’t actually have anything to do with the current situation!
TF: How would you sum it up in one sentence?
Our most ambitious track so far, we really pushed our boundaries.
TF: Who do you look to and idolise when it comes to influences?
There’s six of us in the band and we all come with our own set of influences. These all inevitable end in the mixing pot when we’re writing and recording but I don’t think we could single out one person or band.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release, can we look forward to an EP, LP?
There’s already have another tune ready for release later in the summer and we had recording sessions booked to record an album which was set for release in October but they obviously got cancelled. As soon as we can safely get in a room together we’ll reconvene and put a new plan together. We’ve all been writing during the break so we’ve got plenty of exciting new ideas ready to play with. I’d expect an album to be ready early 2021 at the latest.
