Drift have released a new remix of their 2019 single Edge Of Love by The Vegan Leather, which is available on all main streaming platforms and is also available to purchase on Bandcamp on a pay-what-you-want basis. All proceeds from Bandcamp are going to Black Lives Matter. Linzi Clark, vocalist from Drift, spoke with The Fountain about the track as well as their plans for 2020.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to your Edge of Love remix?

We’ve had a really brilliant response so far! It felt like a strange time to release music during everything that’s been going on in the world, but we thought sharing the remix would be a good opportunity to support the Black Lives Matter Movement. We raised over £100 so far from Bandcamp sales and want to thank everyone who has donated!

TF: How was working with The Vegan Leather to create the remix?

It was so fun to have The Vegan Leather remix our track, we’re not only huge fans of their music but also really close friends and as we’re both representing for Paisley town it felt like a natural collaboration. We absolutely love what Gian has done with the track, it’s got that VL signature sound and we love that about it!

TF: What were the processes like during lockdown, any different to normal?

Lockdown has been a weird mix of productivity with an equal measure of self doubt. It’s difficult to find motivation when we can’t get out and perform live! That is one of the most rewarding aspects of being in a band, getting that buzz from the audience and without it, you need to dig even deeper to get past the self doubt and anxiety of continuing with music during times of uncertainty. We’ve managed to take this time to reflect about what we want to do next and how best we should go about that so in a sense it’s been a valuable ‘breather’ for us. We are missing writing together in the same room though!

TF: What is the plan for the remainder of the year, after this remix release?

We’ve just announced the release of our next single Lifeline which comes out on Thursday 2nd July. We’re really excited to get this track out there as we’ve been sitting on it for a while now. It’s one of our favourite tracks to play live and always seems to get a strong response during our set. It has a late night dance floor feel to it, a little less dreamy than our previous tracks and we can’t wait to see what people think! We’re constantly writing new material and have so much more we want to share. We’ll have another single out by the end of summer and then hopefully by then we’ll be back to gigging whatever that may look like!
