On June 24th Canadian collective Busty and the Bass dropped Out of Love, their new single featuring the legendary Macy Gray. The single also comes with an accompanying electronic remix from British DJ/producer, Harrison. The band spoke with The Fountain about the new track and their plans for an album release.

TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception been like to Out of Love?

The reception has been great! We’re happy to see that the rest of the world loves Macy Gray as much as we do and we’re really pleased by how many people are streaming and talking about Out of Love.

TF: What was it like working with Macy Gray on this track?

Macy’s an iconic artist that all of us in the band look up to. We’ve actually been covering her song I Try in our live show for a few years. We thought she’d be an amazing voice to get on our song Out of Love, and we were lucky that our incredible producer Neal Pogue has worked with her before. Collaborating on this song was a funny thing because we never actually got to go in the studio with her. But she’s the kind of artist that you can send a verse and trust that she’ll kill it, which is exactly what happened.

TF: Where is your favourite venue for playing live, where is the next place you look most forward to gigging?

My favorite indoor venue might be the Bowery Ballroom in NYC. It’s also the last venue we played before the pandemic hit so I have fond memories! Independent venues were rare even before COVID, and I really hope they’ll still be around in the future. I believe that independent music venues of all sizes are vital to a healthy creative scene because they help democratize access to performance spaces for all kinds of artists.
