Asher Knight who was the official support for artists such as The Vamps, Road Trip, who has also done a lot of work with ‘The Power of Muzik’ and has been doing his own school tours has just dropped new single, Without Us. Ashe spoke with The Fountain about the new track as well as the initiative The Power of Muzik.
TF: You have a new single out, what inspired you to title it Without Us?
I was in the studio with George and Rick who are the production duo Red Triangle and George came up with the line “Without You, Without Me, Without Us”, it got stuck in our heads and we all thought Without Us really summed up the whole song after we finished writing the lyrics.
TF: What reception has it had so far?
I was so nervous releasing this song, it’s different to past songs I have released so didn’t know what to expect but the reception was great !! I was able to perform the song a few times before the release and it went down amazing which gave me confidence that this was the right song and the right next step in my music.
TF: You were involved in The Power of Muzik, can you tell us more about this?
The Power of Muzik is an initiative by my mentor CeCe Sammy which consists of different singers going into schools and spreading a positive message. It’s been great fun and has helped me meet so many amazing students that go through hard times but use music to help them push through it.
TF: Who do you look to and idolise when it comes to influences?
I look up to so many artists !! It’s hard to narrow down as I believe all of them have influenced me in some way, but my main few artists are Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson, Beyoncé and artists I have been able to open for on tour like Will Young, Boyzone and many others. They are all very different from each other but they each have influenced me hugely over the years, because of their songwriting, performance and work mentality. Their music has been with me throughout my life and has shaped my music in ways I don’t fully understand.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release, can we look forward to more music releases, virtual gigs?
Planning the rest of this year is difficult, with everything going on there is constant uncertainty. I plan to release more music, virtual gig and hopefully when this all finishes some more tours. I am taking this time to reflect, write ideas and connect with my followers.
