Los Angeles-based Aussie artist Lili Kendall reveals her enchanting new single, Lonely Empress, the final tease from her upcoming full-length project, love, herself.
To execute her vision for Lonely Empress, Lili worked with Grammy-Award winning producer Syience (Beyonce, Jay-Z, John Legend, Mary J. Blige) and guitarist Javaughn Young White. With this release and the forthcoming album Lili spoke with The Fountain about her plans for the year.
TF: You have a new single out, what inspired you to title it Lonely Empress?
I was in a relationship that was not only no longer serving either of us, but had become negative. I needed some direction so I drew a tarot card the morning before my studio session and I got The Empress card. After sitting with Syience & Javaughn in the studio for a while, Lonely Empress came to life through their music and my lyrics.
TF: How would you sum up the single in one sentence?
Rather be the lonely empress than in love.
TF: Who do you look to and idolise when it comes to influences?
I try not to idolise humans, we are flawed beings sent here with the intention of becoming whole, but here’s a playlist of some of my current favourite sounds that are keeping me inspired while quarantined at home.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release, can we look forward to an EP or LP?
My new single, Third Degree Love Crimes, is out now and my debut album, love, herself will be out on April 22nd.
