After premiering on BBC Radio 1, Brisbane’s Cub Sport are thrilled to share Drive, the second single from their forthcoming album Like Nirvana. The album release has been postponed until 24th July via Cub Sport Records/Believe and is available for pre-order here. The Fountain caught up with the band to discuss the single in more depth.
TF: You have a new single out, what has the reception to Drive been like thus far?
The reception has been really lovely thank you. We’ve heard it on the radio a couple of times while we’ve been driving in our car which has made for some cute full circle moments, living out the lyrics hehe. One radio station here in Australia described it as feeling like ‘a big warm hug’ which I love!
TF: How would you sum it up in one sentence?
I’m gonna go with ‘a big warm hug’ lol.
TF: Who do you look to and idolise when it comes to influences?
Leonard Cohen, Lorde, Frank Ocean, Perfume Genius, Kanye West, Celine Dion, The Flaming Lips, Lana Del Rey, Savage Garden, Jeff Buckley, FKA twigs, The 1975, Mallrat, Mura Masa
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, after this single release, can we look forward to an EP, LP?
We’ll be releasing a couple more songs in the coming months and we have an LP called LIKE NIRVANA dropping on July 24. I’m not sure what else the remainder of the year will hold – we had lots of global touring scheduled including some really amazing festival slots, but it’s all up in the air for now. I’m feeling really grateful to have an extended period of time at home though. We’ve been hanging out with our dogs Missy and Evie all day every day and I’ve been writing and recording some new song ideas that I’m really loving, so spirits are high despite the circumstances.
Cub Sport’s new single Drive is out now. The new album, LIKE NIRVANA is out July 24th.
