Newcastle duo Warm Digits have shared their brand-new single, Everyone Nervous – a collaboration with British singer-songwriter and This Is The Kit band member, Rozi Plain. The new track is taken from Warm Digits new album Flight of Ideas (out 10th April on Memphis Industries) which also features guest vocals from The Lovely Eggs, Paul Smith of Maximo Park, The Orielles, and the Delgados’ Emma Pollock. The band spoke with The Fountain about the track in more detail as well as working with Rozi Plain.
TF: You have a new single out, what reception have you had thus far?
It’s been great. It was the last song we finished for the album. Rozi sent us loads of loops and we built the track out of that. The album is about what happens when ideas outlive their usefulness or become detatched from reality, and Rozi’s lyrics circle around individual and collective anxieties and how these tie up with reality, or not.
TF: How would you sum up Everyone Nervous in one sentence?
It seems somewhat timely…
We know… and like everyone at the moment we are nervous. But the song was finished around July last year so has nothing to do with our current situation. Although the lyric and music was edited together by Andrew the week where Whaley bridge and was under threat of flooding from the dam bursting. Andrew lives two miles away and his street was shut down. He had taken a week off to mix the album at home and he found himself cut off with no internet mixing the album hoping that that the dam held and that his local town did not get washed away . So maybe he chose to foreground that lyric subliminally.
Either way it is very fitting for these times
TF: What was it like to work with Rozi on this track?
Great. We sent her the track and she sent loads of ideas back, which we then cut together to make the song. It was definitely one of the songs that travelled from the original concept. In fact if you buy the limited edition of the album you get a 7 inch of the original track we sent to Rozi which is called be like me and it is radically different to Everyone Nervous, so we wanted to share it on the limited edition.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, some more single releases, an EP?
The album is out on April 10 and then we hope to play live although some of our concerts have had to be rearranged we are hoping to go out and promote it towards the end of the year. There are a couple more singles to come, and some more videos premiering in the near future.
