Leif Coffield is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter and producer who is emerging from the shadows with a interesting take on gothic electro-pop. Now, with the release of ‘monsta-san’ – his most ambitious track to date – Coffield confirms himself as inspiring local name. Originally from East Kilbride, Coffield moved to Chapelton in South Lanarkshire when he was 18, where he lived in a run-down caravan for three years. Leif spoke with The Fountain about the new track, and his plans for the rest of the year.
TF: You have a new single out, what reception have you had thus far?
The feedback has been brilliant so far and I’m just looking forward to hearing more people’s thoughts and see who else digs my take on relationships!
TF: How would you sum up the track in one sentence?
Hmm, – If Kanye had written and produced Psycho Killer just after a break up but also binge listened to Billie Eilish during production.
TF: Will you be performing the track live anytime soon, it would be great to hear it in that format?
Hopefully! With this track I knew it was going to be one that would translate best live. During writing I was getting so hyped at the thought of playing it, so absolutely at the first opportunity.
TF: What is your plan for the remainder of the year, some more single releases, an EP?
The rest of the year will be releasing a lot of the tracks I’ve been keeping on the down low, probably mostly singles and an EP towards the end of the year. Definitely looking forward to bring the studio to the live set up too, so that should be fun!
