Inder Paul Sandhu is a singer based in London (Essex) and has just released the first single from his EP, The Colindale Tape, which will be released in January 2020. Inder spoke with The Fountain about the EP and his plans for the coming year.

TF: You have a new single out, that must be exciting?

It is man, so track 1 off The Colindale Tape is out and its like, this is what I’ve been wanting to share with the world for the longest time, for the absolute longest time. I thought it was a confidence related issue as to why I hadn’t hit the world with this earlier but now that I have put it out I can say I was just scared to articulate myself from a vulnerable place. But yeah I’m super happy to share track 1 letter to self with the world, I think so many people would relate to it but not in a way where it makes them sad but more so in a way like ‘oh yeah this sucks or this hurts but I’m good infact so good I can sing about it and in style.’

TF: And what has been the reception been like to The Colindale Tape, can you elaborate on what inspired the crux of it? And how do you feel this differs from previous releases?

So I haven’t fully unleashed the tape on the world just yet, it’s out January 16th!!! However I’ve used different parts of different songs on the tape in my promo drive and the response has been fantastic, all across the board. At first I thought people were flattering me, but over time I very quickly realised I was getting similar if not identical response’s from people of different walks of life and it feels great. This tape came out of such an ugly season, but that why I love music and our ability to create. For as long as we are able to create in our own respectable and individual ways…things aren’t as bad as they seem. I didn’t hold back on this one at all, which would be the main difference between this tape and my other tapes….but if I could flip the script for a moment Keira and ask yourself, what would you say is different between this tape and my other’s besides instrumentation ? *insert cheeky face here*

TF: Can we look forward to seeing you live soon, touring with it anytime soon, particularly here in Scotland? What has been your favourite gig to date?

I would absolutely love to come to Scotland!!! For now I would say it’s all up in the air, I will definitely be performing the hell outta The Colindale Tape but right now I’m really just tryna focus on re-connecting with my fanbase and the people that have been cheering me on, I began to enter a very dark place after my second single Compromise and I just seemed to fall deeper and deeper into that dark place which I’ve recently come out of so I couldn’t re connect with my people quick enough!

My favourite gig is two gigs, lemme explain. This was in the middle of festival season about two year ago, anyway I was rehearsing before my set and I saw a kid bawled up kinda sulking. I was like ‘yo was wrong lil man’ and he weren’t tryna talk to me at all, but I can be quite persistent so I was like ‘dude, wassup’ he ended up telling me his older brother and his older brothers friends wouldn’t let him join in with their games and stuff, so in a nutshell I told this kid to run back there and not leave until they let him play. He ended up coming to see me perform my set that night and turns out he took my advice and he made them let him play, which I was very pleased to hear. What makes this story even more dope for me is that he actually came up on stage and performed my chorus with me the following year because we stayed in touch. Everybody’s got a load and everybodies coming from somewhere, be kind.
