Polartropica is the music endeavor of Los Angeles based, whimsical space-pop artist, Ihui (eeway) Cherise Wu. Born in Taiwan yet raised in California, Wu successfully combines quirky pop melodies, futuristic synths and classical string arrangements, creating a genre of bubblegum psychedelia. And she has just dropped new single, Cant Hold Us Back, which is the fifth single from her upcoming album, released later in the year. The Fountain caught up with Polartropica about the single and her plans for touring.
TF: A new single, how exciting, what has the reception been like so far?
The track has been getting so much love – thank you all for listening, sharing with friends, putting it on your playlists, and for the sweetest messages!
TF: With a title like Can’t Hold Us Back, it sounds more optimistic than a lot of singles out, perhaps what we need right now?
Yes!! I wanted to write a song about being unstoppable to help bring out everyone’s inner sparkly superstar hero. It came from a very sad dark place when I was recording it, and really helped me get through that period of my life – I hope it does the same for folks that are going through hard times!
TF: And is it the first from an EP or an album that we can see the release of later in 2019?
This is the 5th from a full length album Dreams Come True coming out later in 2019!
TF: Will you be promoting the album with a tour at all, will we have the pleasure of seeing you here in Scotland?
I would absolutely love to come to Scotland on the tour! Follow us on instagram at @polartropica for upcoming tour dates!
TF: What has been your favourite gig to date?
My favourite gig is a tie between opening for Shonen Knife, or our Summer Lovin’ – Pool Party Prom show at our recent residency at the Bootleg Theater in Los Angeles!!
