Soulful, singer-songwriter Alex Francis returns with his new single Desire. Recorded in New York with Jeff Silverman (Aloe Blacc), the single precedes a UK and German headline tour in September. The Fountain caught up with Alex about his single, and whether he would be taking that tour to Scotland.
TF: You’ve just released new single, Desire, sum up in five words how you feel?
Hungry, ambitious, challenged, fuelled, ready.
TF: Not only that, you are soon to be touring in the UK, will Scotland have a place on your tour ?
Sadly not on the UK run I’m taking on in September but I’m absolutely focused on getting back as soon as possible – loved playing King Tut’s in Glasgow back in March with Megan Davies.
TF: And what is next in store, an EP, an LP?
There’ll be a new EP before the end of the year amongst another single, so plenty to look forward to!
TF: What has been your favourite gig to date ?
I’m very fortunate to have played several really special ones! I can’t pick on one so here’s two – performing at London Palladium with my brother James for sure and playing L’Olympia in Paris opening for Stereophonics last year are both experiences that I will never forget.
TF: And what was it like working with Jeff Silverman, on this single?
Jeff’s got an amazing intuition for latching on to the stuff that really gets me excited musically and we had an incredible few days tracking at his studio in Brooklyn with a scratch team that we merged together, who brought so much life to the record. Jeff’s space is amazingly well treated acoustically and we got sounds that I’ve longed for on record that have really set a bar for where I’ll go on future releases.
