Comedy actress Tami Stone presents her debut one-woman Edinburgh show this August. A pick’n’mix of sharply observed oddball characters. Chasing fame, finding love… modelling with fruit. It’s all here! My Funny Bits is written by Andrew Ludlam, whose work has previously been performed at the Edinburgh festival, Brighton Comedy Festival, Soho Theatre, London and Birmingham Monologue Slam. Tami spoke with The Fountain about the show in more depth as well as their plans post-August.

TF: You’re performing at Edinburgh this year, how exciting?

Yeah, I can’t wait! It’s such an amazing place to be, the atmosphere is incredible. You can see so many shows of all varieties and meet lots of new creative people whilst also being able to perform yourself. What more could you want! I’m sooo excited to go there and see what new doors may open for me and my writer, Andrew.

TF: My funny bits certainly sounds intriguing, what is the premise?

So it’s a 40 minute character comedy sketch show. It’s five crazy, quirky characters written by Andrew Ludlam, which we’ve then collaborated on to create them and bring to life. You’ve got a cabaret singer (who needs a few singing lessons!), a wannabe actress and a rapping x-factor reject just to name a few. So there’s plenty of variety and lots of lols to be had for all!

TF: And what drove the project, where did your influences lie?

So I’ve been collaborating with Andrew for a while now under the name ‘Bit on the Side comedy sketches’. We actually met through the casting website ‘mandy.com’ and have been creating videos on our YouTube channel and facebook page ever since. We then decided that we wanted to try and put ourselves out there a bit more and share our work with more people – so what better place to do that than at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

TF: What are your plans for the fringe, having been there before are there any tips or musts you would offer to first time performers?

I think the main thing is to enjoy yourself and the experience but also think exactly what you want to try and get from your time there. You may just want to go to have an amazing time or, use it as an opportunity noticed by professionals and for your work to go further. If so, it’s important to do your research before you go. Also, I think it’s important to budget as it can be quite expensive as there’s so many amazing shows you want to go and see but unfortunately it’s impossible to see them all. So it’s a good idea to also check out the show’s you want to see and make a list so you don’t do any crazy spending but also don’t miss out on something super duper!

TF: What are your future plans beyond My Funny Bits?

We’re both interested in meeting agents at the fringe but also would love for our show to be picked up and possibly go on tour or performed elsewhere. We’re not fussy really! We’re both also keen to get involved in TV work, especially as sitcom’s and comedy chat shows are very popular at the moment. That would be the dream! We’ll still carry on creating whatever happens though as we both are very passionate about comedy and you just can’t beat the thrill you get when you make people laugh.

Tami Stone’s show My Funny Bits will be at theSpace at Surgeons Hall from 2nd – 17th August (Not 11th) at 20:15. For tickets, go to www.edfringe.com
