The wildest watering hole in town. Madam Boozy Skunkton has been collecting the prettiest, sexiest, dumbest, drunkest troupe of entertainers and acrobats on earth, and is determined to create the greatest saloon show the world has ever known. Moulin Rouge meets Blazing Saddles, and America’s Got Talent meets Westworld. From the creators of the hit Las Vegas show Absinthe, Spiegelworld are taking Atomic Saloon Show to Edinburgh for the month of August. They also spoke with The Fountain about their show in more depth.

TF: You are performing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, how exciting?

Spiegelworld is relocating our entire Las Vegas production company and 14 international performers to Edinburgh for the months of July and August to create and premiere Atomic Saloon Show. So we are excited to immerse ourselves in everything the city and festival has to offer.

TF: Atomic Saloon Show certainly sounds entertaining, what is the premise?

Imagine Blazing Saddles meets The Greatest Showman meets 24 Hour Party People. It’s the Wild West as it never was.

TF: And what drove the project, where did your influences lie?

Spiegelworld currently produces two resident shows in Las Vegas. Absinthe at Caesars Palace has been playing for over eight years, and Opium at The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas recently celebrated its first anniversary. Las Vegas’s bizarre history of tough pioneers, atomic testing program of the 1950s and more recent show business glitz inspired the theme of Atomic Saloon Show. Our shows feel like mad parties and always combine comedy, circus, burlesque and vaudeville, presented in an intimate and immersive environment for an adult audience. We have wanted to work with UK director Cal McCrystal for many years as we love his sense of subversive physical comedy. Our brief to Cal was to create a show that was very funny and full of incredibly sexy acrobats. We have always been attracted by the idea of creating a show at Fringe as a platform to develop new shows for Las Vegas.

TF: Have you been to the Fringe before, is there anything you are keen to see whilst in Edinburgh?

Spiegelworld presented a small production Vegas Nocturne at the Fringe in 2014. This was an opportunity for us to explore new ideas for comedy in front of a risk-taking audience. We were awarded Strangest Show! This year we are looking forward to seeing the incredible range of brilliant contemporary circus and comedy on offer.

TF: And what are your future plans beyond Atomic Saloon Show?

As soon as our season in Edinburgh ends, the entire cast and crew of Atomic Saloon Show head to Las Vegas where the show will take up its permanent residency at The Venetian Resort.

You can see Atomic Saloon Show at Assembly George Square Gardens from 7th – 25th August at 22:10. For tickets, please visit www.edfringe.com
