In this adrenaline-fuelled explosion of extreme urban sports, breakdance, music and theatre, ISH Dance Collective create breathtaking poetry in every single moment. Elements of Freestyle is a Fringe show about those redeeming seconds that make a complicated trick ultimately succeed; about the freestylers’ total focus, the ecstasy and feeling of complete and total freedom. ISH Dance Collective spoke with The Fountain about what can be expected from the show.

TF: You are performing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, how excited are you?

We are very excited and looking forward for the biggest theatre festival of the world. This festival was on my bucket list for a long time. With this show it felt right and the perfect timing to show the world who we are!

TF: Your show certainly sounds intriguing, what is the premise?

The premise of the show are the performers itself.. ‘We’ are the story. I wanted to show the audience our lifestyle, our ambition, passion, joy and love for the game, being strong in your own discipline is one thing, combine it with another discipline, it creates art.

TF: And what drove the project, where do your influences lie?

My passion besides creating shows is Freestyle inline skating, In the end of the nineties I was in the Freestyle Rollerblade team and travelled through all Europe to give street-shows at events and clubs. From that moment on I knew I would make shows with street skills. Many of my friends are bboys, skaters, parkour/Freerunners, dj’s, bmx-er, it’s also the lifestyle I like and see a lot of comparisons.

TF: What are your plans for the Fringe, having been before are there any tips or musts you would offer to first-time performers?

It’s the biggest theatre festival so you get totally overloaded from all the shows on the street and all the venues.. the best is just to open your eyes and ears and the vibe will tell you where to go and what to see.. the word of mouth advertising is still the strongest..

TFL And what are your future plans, beyond the Fringe?

Still planning to create many shows, and keep on searching for crazy weird combinations on stage.

You can see ISH Dance Collective: Elements of Freestyle at Pleasance at EICC from 3rd- 25th August at 4pm. For tickets, please visit www.edfringe.com
