Company 2 brought you the smash hit Cantina followed by Scotch and Soda, and now this Fringe they’re back with their latest work, Le Coup. Place yourself in the world’s last travelling boxing tent for some hard-hitting acrobatics and aerial feats where you have nothing to lose and everything to gamble. Company 2 spoke with The Fountain about the inspiration behind the show as well as their plans beyond the Fringe.
TF: You are performing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, how exciting?
We are so thrilled. Scared, nervous, but excited and have a feeling that Le Coup is going to fit right in to the Fringe vibe.
TF: Le Coup certainly sounds intriguing, what is the premise?
Le Coup is inspired by a traveling boxing tent. There are few left in Australia. The one I was inspired by has maintained this old worldly carnival vibe where the entertainment is raw and real, and everyone is out for a good time. I wanted to capture this in a circus performance and allow our audience to feel engaged in the action and taken away to another time.
TF: And what drove the project, where did your influences lie?
The traveling boxing tent, live music, entertainment, impressive skills and characters to charm you and take you on this ride. These things drove me to make Le Coup and of course a desire to have our audience be transported for an hour to a place only they are experiencing.
TF: Have you been to the Fringe before, is there anything you are keen to see whilst in Edinburgh?
So much.. But it is always a hard balance. Working and parenting a 2 year old consume most of me. But The Long Pigs would be high on my list of must see.
TF: And what are your future plans beyond Le Coup?
Oh… Big question…. Save the world, vote for climate change, protect our endangered animals and grow veggies. I love making theatre experience, which I hope in all there difference ways keep opening doors for myself, the artists involved and for audiences that come to experience them.
You can see Le Coup at Underbellys Circus Hub on the Meadows until 24th August at 18:00. For tickets, please visit www.edfringe.com
