Relive the joy of your favourite cult classic films in thirty minutes with Fringe show, Thirty Minute Musicals: Roulette. Critically acclaimed Los Angeles based comedy troupe, 30 Minute Musicals will be in Edinburgh for the month of August, one of which, award-winning Daisy Eagan, spoke with The Fountain about the show and her plans for the Festival.
TF: You are performing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, how exciting?
I can’t even begin to say how excited I am to be performing at Edinburgh Fringe. But, I’ll try… Edinburgh Fringe is like a badge of honour in the theatre world. To say that you have gone and actually performed a show at The Fringe gives you a kind of special cred. At least in my humble opinion. I have ALWAYS wanted to do this.
TF: Thirty Minute Musicals: Roulette certainly sounds intriguing, what is the premise?
30 Minute Musicals: Roulette IS intriguing! We take popular movies and turn them into… 30 minute musicals. Honestly sometimes the shows are a little over 30 minutes, but we don’t factor in the audience laughter when we’re timing the show. We are rehearsing three shows: Top Gun, Jurassic Park, and Die Hard. Each night the audience votes on which movie they want to see us musicalize. So, you can keep coming back. And even if you’ve already seen one of the shows, it will always be a little different. The cast is small and some of the parts will be played by different actors depending on when you come. Plus, there’s always the element of surprise. Many of us are from the improv world, so sometimes things might pop up in the moment that have never happened before. You will never see the same show twice.
TF: What are your plans for the Fringe, having been before are there any tips or musts you would offer to first-time performers?/Have you been to the Fringe before, is there anything you are keen to see whilst in Edinburgh?
Personally, I’m doing two shows at Fringe (honestly, I can’t believe my luck)! So, I’ll be performing twice a day, and trying to see as many other shows as I can in between. I’ve been to Edinburgh once VERY briefly while I waited for a bus tour of the Highlands. I went into a pub and had a pint and a conversation with a guy who had the thickest brogue I’d ever heard. To this day, I have no idea what he was saying. Also, my dream is to retire to to Isle of Skye.
TF: And what are your future plans beyond Thirty Minute Musicals: Roulette?
There are always plans in the works for 30 Minute Musicals. Brooke, our fearless leader, is always thinking about the next project. Hopefully we’ll be back next year with three new musicals!!
You can see Thirty Minute Musicals: Roulette at Assembly George Square Studios from 1st – 25th August (Not 15th) at 18:30. For tickets, please visit www.edfringe.com
