LA based band, WOLVES, have just released a new single, entitled Shoulder to Shoulder, which sure is a flashback to the past. Intentionally released on Martin Luther King Day, 21st January 2019, it brings to the forefront all the emotions on Marvin Gaye’s What’s Going On.

WOLVES spoke with The Fountain about the new track and the significance of releasing it on Martin Luther King Day.

TF: A new single, how exciting, what can we expect?

Thank you! Hopefully we can expect big things from this one! It definitely sounds like WOLVES, but the lyrical content is a bit heavier than most of our previous releases. We honed in on a specific message for this song: one of equality and standing up to injustice. It just felt like the right song to do it—so hopefully it gets around and spreads some light into the world.

TF: What are you shoulder to shoulder with?

We’re always shoulder to shoulder for what’s right and for going after what you believe in. The United States where we live (and the rest of the world for that matter) is in a really weird place right now. There’s a lot of opportunity to focus on the negativity out there…so at the end of the day, we’re shoulder to shoulder for more love and a better tomorrow.

TF: What is the significance of it being released on Martin Luther King Day?

In our opinion, there was no other time to release it. MLK was one of the greatest humans to ever live, and we wanted to pay homage to the way he changed the world. That being said, we’re seeing a lot of events in our world right now that bear eerie similarities to the 1960’s. We felt compelled to stand up for what’s right, in our own way. We’re not politicians or activists or anything—but if we can spread a positive message through a song, we have to.

TF: Where has been your favourite gig to date?

We were fortunate enough to headline The Troubadour last fall and we packed the place out! It was incredible to play such a historic venue with so many of our friends. The walls in that place definitely vibrate with energy…it makes you play like never before, but more importantly, it makes you feel like never before.

TF: Are we likely to see you perform up here in Scotland anytime soon?

We’d love that! Hopefully sooner than we think. None of us have been to Scotland but it’s definitely towards the top of the list for dream travel destinations!
