Candy is excited to reveal his forthcoming debut album, Under the Weather, out November 16. Today, Candy shares opening cut, Validation, from the record.

Candy spoke with The Fountain about the track and the album as well as their favourite gig.

TF: A new single, what can we expect from that?

It’s called Validation and it’s pretty much me just letting everyone know how utterly insecure I am and how much I crave people opinions of me. Thankfully though I think the shimmering guitars distract a bit from the heart on the sleeve lyrics.

TF: And can we expect an LP in the near future, are you working towards that at the moment?

Under The Weather has been finished since around June/July last year so I’ve actually gone and bought myself a lap steel and violin and have been trying to make some nice alt pop country stuff haha. It’s good though starting new stuff cause otherwise I’d be super anxious about this album coming out whilst now I’ve got something I can focus on rather than pressing refresh on my Spotify profile and bandcamp stats.

TF: And are you promoting this with a tour, can we expect you in Scotland anytime soon?

I was in Scotland about two years ago and oh boy would I love to go back there. I was mainly in Edinburgh and pretty much skulked off from my class and went to that super nice jazz bar and drank tenants by myself most nights. I’d love to pack my bags and do a little solo run of shows but money is always a toughie haha.

TF: And what is validation for you?

In a musical sense, just having people attentively listen to a song and *hopefully* enjoy it. If they don’t that’s totally fine but preferably not having to scroll through mean youtube comments about my “large teeth” would be dope.

TF: What has been your favourite gig to date, do you have one?

I played a show in Melbourne at the Grace Darling recently which was real fun – I’d been super sick all week and played a show the night before and I’d sounded like a dying cat. The Grace show was just a really nice and affirming that I actually really enjoy playing my music live and that sometimes a crowd will enjoy it too haha.
