Following the first space war of Elon Musk and Jeff Bezos, a lone detective is contracted to find the love in this absurdist, avant-garde, funk opera. LA-based, intergalactic dance force, Thumpasaurus teams up with anarchic, Norwegian-American comedy duo Zach & Viggo for an hour of madness! This has resulted in Where Does the Love Go? which is at the Underbelly, Cowgate, at Edinburgh’s Fringe during the month of August.

Zach and Viggo spoke with The Fountain about the premise of the show and what they hope to work on once the Fringe is over.

TF: You are performing at the Edinburgh Fringe this year, how exciting?

Very exciting.

TF: Your show certainly sounds intriguing, what is the premise?

This year we’re teaming up with LA-based, funk-punk band Thumpasaurus and adapting their twenty-five minute funk opera into an hour-long stage show. This show is essentially a sci-fi melodrama performed by a bunch of clowns and world-class musicians that takes place in a post-space war, futuristic world where Jeff Bezos and the Amazon Empire control the world. It is very serious art, as it is a critique of capitalism and the pursuit of convenience.

TF: And what drove the project, where did your influences lie?

Zach and Lucas (the lead singer of Thump) met in LA a few years ago while dating two girls that were best friends. The two boys fell madly in love with their girlfriends and started hanging out loads – eating at taco trucks and ramen spots all over town. A few months into the friendship they both got dumped and were completely heartbroken. The two boys met up at a diner really late at night, Lucas showed Zach an opera he was working on, and they decided to give it a go.

TF: What are your plans for the Fringe, having been before are there any tips or musts you would offer to first-time performers?

We’re taking seven shows under our independent, music and comedy label, Stamptown. Our best advice to first timers would be see as much as you can, say yes to everything, stay out late, sleep with everyone who wants to sleep with you, push yourself to the edge, and climb Arthur’s Seat the last night. You’ll never forget it.

TF: And what are your future plans beyond your show?

We’re headed to London to continue working on a television project we’re developing. Thumpasaurus is in town for the first ten days of September for some gigs at Ronnie Scott’s and The Waiting Room, and Zach & Viggo have some gigs lined up at Bill Murray and Knock2Bag.
