2017 was a great year for Áine Cahill – following the breakthrough success of Plastic, and the huge Black Dahlia before that, the twenty-three year old spent the year playing a host of acclaimed shows ranging from a sold out St Pancras Church, a sold-out Irish Tour, festival sets at Glastonbury, Latitude, Field Day, SGP, Great Escape and more, followed by a huge October support tour for JP Cooper. And to top it all off she performed a cover of the iconic Christmas song, Fairytale in New York.

Áine spoke with The Fountain about what we can expect from her in 2018.

TF: What was the response like to your cover of the iconic Christmas classic, Fairytale in New York?

I got really positive comments from everyone about FairyTale of New York! 🙂 It’s always scary to cover a song that is loved by so many, but I really enjoyed singing it with the Kodaline lads.

TF: Following your Blood Diamonds release, are we to expect an EP or album soon?

There is definitely an EP on the way, with hopefully an album to follow after that! I’m doing loads of writing at the moment.

TF: I know you are based in Ireland, but will we have the pleasure of seeing you hit Scotland soon?

I would love to come and do my own show in Scotland! My granny was Scottish! Hopefully I get to do a show there this year.

TF: And what inspired the single, Blood Diamonds?

I wrote Blood Diamonds years ago and have always played it live. It’s just about greed really, how people can value material things more than other people etc.

TF: What has been your favourite gig to date?

This is always a tough question! I had a great time playing Glastonbury in 2017, also I supported JP Cooper on his UK tour and the last show was in The Roundhouse in London! It will always be a special one for me, I signed my record deal backstage before my set!
