Trees is a lyrical, factual picture book with stunning graphic illustrations that pays tribute to the beauty and importance of the trees all around us, and their vitality in this world. Lemniscates hits home the importance of these, as they move through the seasons, their function, allowing the space to question a world without them. Her poetic picture book welcomes the reader to take a more microscopic look at the trees around us, and their role within the world.

In a way that almost personifies them, Lemniscates writes,”trees have their heads in the clouds and their feet on the ground,” inviting the reader to find correlations between them and the subject of her latest picture book. Carme Lemniscates is an award-winning author, illustrator, and designer of children’s books who sees each book project as a complete undertaking in which the text, illustrations, and graphic design converge with the same spirit from beginning to end. Her mixed media works combine monotype, collage, woodcut, and digital. She has a special interest in books that open the doors for creative thinking and curiosity about subjects precisely like Trees as well as friendship, fear, adoption and self-acceptance.

Her book Silence won a 2012 Foreword Reviews Book of the Year Bronze Award, and in 2016 she won the Serra d’Or Critics’ Award for Arbres, which will be released in the U.S. as Trees by Candlewick Studio in spring 2017.

Trees evolve through the seasons, which this book beautifully highlights as well as being indicative of their significance. They clean the air we breathe, provide seeds and homes for creatures and extend their shade to everyone equally. Through her all encompassing design and multi-medium style, Lemniscates has taken this subject and wonderfully created a title that many will enjoy, adults and those three and older, learning about the poetic nature of Trees.
