The theme is epic fails. The rules are clear. Five minutes. No props. No scripts. No shaming of others. Get up on stage, tell your story, laugh and cringe and you may just win a fabulous prize.

This is the second outing for Smut Slam in Glasgow but it’s been around in North America for longer and has six more evenings around this island. MC’ed by the outstanding Cameryn Moore it is an evening of storytelling by those who may not ordinarily share their stories. An open platform for non-professionals to engage first hand and with brutal honesty. Moore is a fantastic host adeptly encouraging audience participation and sharing a sex positive attitude with all who come, as well as training up other hosts.

This evening’s story range from leg crossing, eye watering horror to head in hands, cheek flushing reminiscing. All are very entertaining. The space is one of total welcome and support. Vanilla, kink, trans, queer, poly, fat…just everyone who isn’t shaming or hating others ok? Smiles from strangers, hearty laughing and not a hint of judgement (well except from the judges) encouraged me to share my own tale of a mishap in the Lake District. Full disclosure: I won a heat sensitive mug that when filled with tea reads ‘I Heart Sex’.

The Rum Shack is a great setting conveniently close to a train station, good music and atmosphere with a nice drinks selection. And amazing food. My slightly hot-sauce cocky companion who was up from London – we had hot sauce first- was defeated by the spice.

Inclusion is absolutely key to Smut Slam and as part of that a ‘Fuckbucket’ is passed around. Those not wanting to get up on stage can anonymously deposit their own confessions or questions to be read out. Events like this one can be described as not for the faint of heart, but all are welcome here. Literally all. The only thing that would have made it better was more people, but as a second outing for a new night the crowd were vocal and engaged. It will be back again on the third Monday of the month and hopefully with more noise.

Come and be shy and sit at the back. Be bold and get up on stage. Just come. The more people the more stories, the more laughs, the more smut.
