Review: Anna Meredith, Stuart Braithwaite, Forest Swords and Gaika, 6 Music Festival

Sunday saw the culmination of this year’s BBC 6 Music Festival in Glasgow with another night of music across the city. While big acts like locals Belle and Sebastian and highly anticipated headliners Depeche Mode drew crowds at the O2 Academy and Barrowlands, St Luke’s was once again the focal point for somer of the newer and more experimental acts at the festival.

As if three full days of music, talks and events wasn’t a busy enough schedule for 6 Music Festival, the ambitious programming also took on Glasgow’s nightlife scene on the Saturday night. The 6 Music ‘Late’ event took place in the industrial-feeling SWG3 which was the perfect setting for the evening’s proceedings, not least because the three different performance spaces allowed for there to be more than one DJ playing at a time. This, combined with the short set times for even the bigger names on the bill (no more than an hour long) meant that the festival was able to showcase an impressively broad range of dance music styles in four short hours.
